CANCER ALLIANCES - ORGANISATION AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
The challenge
How can you achieve world class cancer outcomes at a local level through the delivery of effective organisational and leadership development?
The approach
Over the past 6 years, Prospect has successfully partnered with 11 of the 21 cancer alliances in England, supporting the delivery of world class cancer outcomes and services to patients through organisation and leadership development. We are very proud to have supported successful transformational change initiatives to improve the cancer care experience of patients. Our approach is not only underpinned by our expertise in whole system and whole pathway delivery but also the investment in developing trusting and collaborate partnerships. Our goal is to share our learnings and insights as well as to equip each and every individual within the alliance with the skills and competencies of leadership to translate and deliver the cancer alliance vision and influencing others in its operational delivery.
Whilst our programmes are varied, be it the effectiveness of MDT’s, Clinical and non Clinical Leadership development, Team performance, Transformational Change programmes, our golden thread is always to improve the impact on patient care and experience, ensuring that all initiatives contribute directly to the well-being of those undergoing cancer treatment.
We’ve supported clinical leader, cancer leads, MDT chairs, core MDT members and wider alliance members through a broad range of packages including; service design, systems leadership programmes, development needs analysis, individual leadership development programmes, one to one and group coaching, action learning, leadership masterclasses and webinars.

Recent Projects
NORTHERN CANCER ALLIANCE 2024
We are delivering three phases of leadership development for MDT chairs, vice chairs and core members (over 130 MDT leads attended to date) and a system leadership programme for clinical leads.
Outcomes:
★ “Our MDT functions well, but I was interested to be introduced to the theory of behaviours of people in groups and of influencing styles for managing tricky situations. I had little awareness of this knowledge before, and it has really worked – our MDT is functioning better now.”
★ “I’ve introduced a ‘written code of behaviour’ which was approved at the MDT AGM and is now followed by the MDT members. We also try to limit the number of patients for discussion through an improved and collaborative assessment process.”
★ “I found this course one of the best facilitated courses I have attended over the years. It was realistic but also informative. I look forward to trying to incorporate some of my newly found knowledge into my MDT.”
★ “Promoting Emotional Intelligence throughout the team ethos will raise performance to drive the MDT forward.”
